Finding My Way to How I Can Take Care of Myself

This lesson utilizes the book, Kaitlyn Wants to See Ducks. Kaitlyn is a young girl with Down syndrome who goes to the zoo with her family. Everyone has their favorite animal they want to see. She has to wait to see the ducks. This makes her feel mad and sad. Kaitlyn shows us what she does to take care of herself so she can feel happy.

 
Lesson Objective: Students will share how they feel when they can’t do what they want to do and identify three ways they can take care of themselves so they can feel happy.

Finding My Way to How I Can Help at Home

This lesson utilizes the book, I Want to Be Like Poppin’ Joe. Poppin’ Joe is an adult with autism and Down syndrome. He has a very successful gourmet popcorn business and he is an excellent role model for all children. His story shares how he chose his work based on his interests.

Lesson Objective: Students will identify their interests to gain an understanding of how they can help at home.
